Shape and Geometry Puzzles for Kids

Naming shapes, matching them and seeing how small shapes build bigger ones is early geometry. These puzzles start with a toddler’s shape sorter and grow into tangrams and pattern blocks.

Why it matters

Knowing that two triangles make a square, or that a shape stays the same when it turns, is the base for area, symmetry and later geometry at school.

How to help

  • Name the shapes together as you play: hexagon, trapezoid, rhombus.
  • After a win, ask which smaller shapes made the bigger one.
  • Spot the same shapes around the house.

In the curriculum

Identify, compare and compose shapes (Common Core K.G, 1.G; MOE Geometry; NEL Numeracy).
